Desiree Tilbury, founder and administrator of Westfield Prep Schools in Parade Street, Kingston, Georgetown had never envisioned the day she was going to run her own school. With a visually challenged husband and her job at the time not enabling her to tend to him before leaving home for work she had to find a steady source of income.
“I didn’t see myself where I am today. I never thought about running my own school and churning out excellent results until such time that the idea was thrown out to me. God has been good to me and has brought me from zero to hero and I have too much to be thankful to Him. I am blessed. My teaching career has been very fruitful/productive, very memorable. It has been a journey but one that I have really enjoyed,” Tilbury told Stabroek News during an interview at her Kingston, Georgetown base.
As part of her contribution in the educational field, Tilbury said, the school has made concessions for several students whose families could no longer afford the school fees for one reason or another.
