Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has shared some major career news following his 2025-26 season with the Falcons.
Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has been holding down the fort for the Atlanta Falcons, but the team is out of the playoffs, so Cousins’ future has been a bit of a mystery. The team wrapped up their final game of the season on Sunday, January 4, with a win over the New Orleans Saints and a 19-17 final score.
After the win over the Saints, Cousins was asked about his future with his team. Speaking to reporters, he said, “Hard to know. I would like to keep playing, but we’ll see how things play out in March or even after that… I would love to be back here. We’ll see how things play out.”
During the 2025-26 season with the Falcons, Cousins completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards with 10 passing touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games, according to NFL research. He also clocked one rushing touchdown.
So, what does the future hold for Cousins? On Wednesday, January 14, news emerged on Cousins that points to what he’ll be doing in the immediate future.
Kirk Cousins Career Update
Cousins will be seen on TV during the playoffs, even though he won’t be playing on the field. On Wednesday, CBS announced that Cousins will join them as a guest studio analyst for both the divisional round and the AFC championship game.
The move comes after Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan announced he was leaving CBS and “The NFL Today” panel show last week to take over the president of football job.
So, Cousins will serve as a guest analyst on “The NFL Today” for the divisional round and AFC Championship game along with Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson, James Brown and Kyle Long.
So, even though Cousins has said he wants to go back to the Falcons and continue to play football in the 2026-27 season, if not, he’ll have some extra experience as an analyst during the NFL playoffs.
Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell Talks About the Future
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah met with reporters on Tuesday, January 13, and talked about the future of the team.
“This season was not, in any way, shape or form, what we planned or hoped for,” O’Connell said, according to the team’s official website, “but just the way they finished, the way they continue to fight, the way they stayed together and continue to strive for success through adversity, was impressive to watch. And so fortunate to be around the great group I get to be around.”
He added, “The same for our coaches. Total compliment to our coaching staff for helping to persevere through what was a difficult season at times and, ultimately, finishing the way we did, 5-0 down the stretch, shows a lot about those guys. And most importantly, our players, our staff.”
Adofo-Mensah added, “That’s not the standard we set here for ourselves. It’s not the standard we’ve set for our fans. At the same time, I have a great deal of respect for how the season finished.”
Now the team has the offseason to regroup and come back better and stronger than ever for the 2026-27 run.
