The school district posted the message on its website, adding they will not be moving to e-learning because that is only allowable for severe weather.
The announcement comes almost 12 hours after a woman was killed by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis.
It also comes on the same day Minnesota Public Radio reports Border Patrol agents showed up at Roosevelt High School, just three miles from the earlier shooting. MPR reports the agents went onto school property during dismissal and handcuffed two staff members. They also used chemical weapons on bystanders and many sought shelter in the school library.
“Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no school on Thursday, Jan. 8 and Friday, Jan. 9 due to safety concerns related to today’s incidents around the city. All MPS-sponsored programs, activities, athletics and Community Education classes, including adult education, will be canceled. The district will not move to e-learning because that is only allowable for severe weather,” the district said on its website. “MPS will continue collaborating with the City of Minneapolis and other partners on emergency preparedness and response.”
