Local, state and academic leaders gathered this week to wield the ceremonial scissors for a ribbon cutting to welcome the newest campus asset at Athens State University.
Alabama Department of Workforce Secretary Greg J. Reed on Thursday joined with Alabama Senator Arthur Orr, Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, Limestone County Commission Chair Collin Daly, and university President Dr. Carol Wehlburg to official open the Athens Career Center, a full-service extension of the state’s Workforce Pathways Division that will be housed on the Athens State campus.
A collaboration between Athens State and the Alabama Department of Workforce, the new Limestone County location will offer a full range of services to both job seekers and their would-be employers, including “resume assistance, job placement services, educational and vocational training assistance, employee pre-screening, and more,” according to a statement issued by the department.
The center is located at Chasteen Hall on the Athens State campus (161 North Clinton Street, Suite 106 in Athens). In addition to providing first-step resources for both employers and job hunters, the Athens Career Center also will offer hands-on support for career-minded individuals engaged in cultivating their professional development.
“We are thrilled to partner with Workforce Alabama by providing a space for the Athens Career Center to be housed on our campus, allowing the Center to equip and serve Limestone County’s jobseekers and employers,” the university said in a release. “…At Athens State, we strive to meet the demands of today’s workforce through our program offerings and believe this collaboration is a step toward further growth and development in our county.”
