Springfield school board approves close-out contract
LAKEMORE — During the Dec. 16 regular meeting, the Springfield Local Schools Board of Education approved the Certificate of Project Completion for the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission’s (OFCC) Exceptional Needs Program, and the disposal of the remaining project. This is a standard administrative step to formally close out a construction project funded through the OFCC’s Exceptional Needs Program.
In other business, the board accepted retirements of teachers Julie DiTommaso and Dale Handley, both effective June 1, 2026. The board also approved an unpaid leave of absence for classified employee Billi Chandler beginning Dec. 8, through the end of the 2025-26 school year. Chandler will be added to the substitution list during this time period.
Additionally, the board recognized the following students: Belle Victor, Springfield High School; Scout Willis, Springfield Junior High; Eli Walker and Salina Tamang, Schrop Intermediate School; and Rae’Juan Wemmer and Kora Nagle, Spring Hill Elementary School.
The board also approved an overnight/extended trip for the Springfield High School Marching Band and chaperones to travel to Cincinnati and Columbus, April 25-26. No school days will be missed, and all expenses will be paid through fundraising and by participants.
The board then went into executive session to review negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees, with no action taken.
The Springfield Local Schools Board of Education will next meet Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Springfield Administration Building and Preschool Center, 2141 Pickle Road, with an organizational meeting prior to the regular meeting.
