BISMARCK — North Dakota Secretary of State Michael Howe has approved the format of a petition to initiate a constitutional measure on the ballot related to funding of school lunches.
Backers of a
measure that would lead to free school lunches
will have until Dec. 23, 2026 — one year after notice of approval — to collect a sufficient number of signatures and submit them to the Office of the Secretary of State for review.
No fewer than 31,164 valid signatures are required to place the question on the ballot
To be on the ballot for the June 9, 2026, primary election, signatures must be submitted before midnight on Feb. 9.
To be on the ballot in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, signatures must be submitted before midnight on July 6.
