INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — KIPP Legacy High School is hosting the first in a pair of town hall meetings put on by the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance on Wednesday.
The ILEA hopes to hear feedback from people on options for proposals about sharing transportation and facilities between Indianapolis Public Schools and charter schools. There’s also proposals to change how IPS is governed.
The alliance chose two options for each of the three topics at its Dec. 3 meeting. A breakdown of the model options can be viewed here.
For transportation, the ILEA is moving forward with Model Option 1, “Collaborative Compact,” and Model Option 2, “Independent Transportation Authority.”
The facilities options picked were Model Option 1, “Collaborative Compact,” and Model Option 2, “Independent Buildings Authority.”
Models for a new governance system include Model Option 2, “Collaborative Compact Advisory Board,” and Model Option 3, “Indianapolis Education Authority.”
The ILEA will include one model per topic in its final recommendation to the state. However, the options may be changed based on the alliance’s discussion and feedback from the community.
Indiana House Enrolled Act 1515 mandated the creation of the ILEA. The alliance is made up of representatives from IPS, Mayor Joe Hogsett’s office and charter school advocates.
It was tasked to come up with recommendations on implementing transportation and facilities sharing between IPS and charter schools, improving efficiency within IPS and potentially a new structure for the school board.
According to the law, the ILEA needs to report the recommendations to district, city and state leaders by Dec. 31
The Mayor’s office says those final recommendations will be made at ILEA’s Dec. 17 meeting.
