The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and its recently relaunched LAUSD Education Foundation have announced commitments totaling more than $11 million from the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, Ballmer Group, and the Chuck Lorre Family Foundation to expand evidence-based programs and drive equity and innovation across the nation’s second-largest school district.
Commitments will accelerate the success of Los Angeles Unified’s Priority Schools initiative, expanding the reach of proven strategies across the district’s highest-need campuses by increasing access to instructional materials; expanding tutoring in small-group instruction, enhancing professional learning and coaching for teachers, counselors, and administrators; and strengthening student support and enrichment programs that foster whole-child success.
“At a time when public education stands at a crossroads, these transformational investments…affirm that our schools—and our students—are worth investing in,” said LAUSD superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho. “This philanthropic gift will accelerate innovation, expand opportunity, and help to ensure that every student in Los Angeles has access to the kind of education that transforms lives and communities.”
