The Los Angeles Lakers played their second preseason game of the 2024-25 season on Sunday night against the Phoenix Suns. Los Angeles led for the majority of the contest but blew the lead late in the fourth quarter.
The final score was 118-114, with Phoenix coming out on top. LeBron James and Anthony Davis made their preseason debuts for the Lakers, helping the team take the early lead.
Davis dropped 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists over 18 minutes of game action. James put up 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists over 16 minutes on the floor.
But during the second quarter, history was made. Lakers rookie guard Bronny James checked into the game, joining his father LeBron.
It was the first time that a father-son duo had ever played together on an NBA court and a moment that the James family will never forget. These moments will likely be few and far between due to Bronny likely playing in the G-League but it was special nonetheless.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick weighed in on the moment between the two family members.
“I’m excited about it,” Redick added. “I’m very honored that I get to be part of history.”
The rookie guard was playing in his second career game for Los Angeles and things didn’t go as smoothly this time around. He finished by scoring zero points, grabbing two rebounds, and having four turnovers.

Bronny missed the only shot attempt that he saw, which was a three-point shot that his dad set up perfectly for him. The young guard didn’t play particularly well in his first game either but he did have three blocked shots to show on the stat sheet.
After the game, LeBron took to social media to give his thoughts on the moment. The legend was emotional about it all and his post showed that fact.
WOW THAT WAS SURREAL!! 🥺🥺🥺🙌🏾🙌🏾

It will be a growing process for Bronny as he develops into more of an NBA player. He possesses good instincts on the defensive side of the floor, a trait that teams can’t teach to players.
But his jump shot is still a work in progress and it has shown so far through the preseason contests. The Lakers will need to be patient with Bronny as he grows his game even more.
If they can allow him time to develop, Los Angeles may be able to land an impactful player for the team down the line. But for now, it’s all about getting reps and the Lakers will likely continue to allow Bronny to have playing time in the preseason.
