VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — At its regular meeting held Thursday, Oct. 30, the Vicksburg Warren School Board questioned the high cost of utilities at the schools.
According to the monthly list of expenses, the district paid $23,496.52 to the City of Vicksburg for utilities including water, sewer and gas.
Vicksburg High School was the highest cost at $6,777.34. The stadium at VHS was an additional $4,905.23.
District 1 Board member Bryan Pratt, questioned the high expense, “In some cases the cost at the field house is higher than the amount for an entire school.”
The board was in unison and had concerns of possible leaks. Board Attorney Briggs Hopson said the matter could be looked into with regards to the relationship between the city and school board.
Board President James Stirgus, Jr., also pointed out the expense for energy from Entergy Mississippi, which totaled $322,914.52.
“Warren Central High School was over $30,000,” he said.
Comparatively the Entergy bill for VHS was $20,805.19.
“Well, at least parents can see that bills aren’t cheap,” said Stirgus.
