TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Area District Library and the Northern Michigan Community Council of the National MS Society, Michigan Chapter are hosting a program on Oct. 22 to educate participants on the impact of lifestyle factors impact the risk of getting multiple sclerosis.
The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Oct 22 at 610 Woodmere Ave. in Traverse City.
Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. There is currently no cure for MS.
Symptoms vary from person to person and can range from numbness and tingling to mobility challenges, blindness and paralysis.
An estimated 1 million people live with MS in the United States. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50 and it affects women three times more than men.
The evening will feature presentations by two local professionals and a Q&A.
Hear tips from Kaitlyn Malaski, PT, DPT, NCS, a Board-Certified Neurologic Clinical Specialist and owner of Mindset Physical Therapy, on why exercise is essential to general health and well-being.
Melissa Goodchild, RDN, CDCES from Munson Medical Center will share about nutrition as a facet of living well with multiple sclerosis and how a healthy diet may have a positive effect on your MS.
The National MS Society, founded in 1946, funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy and provides programs and services to help people affected by MS live their best lives.
