Auburn Career Center has announced the launch of the Auburn Career Center Food Market, a community initiative designed to provide fresh produce and essential food items to residents in need.
Starting Oct. 28, Auburn will partner with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, United Way of Lake County, the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve, the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce, the Geauga Growth Partnership and Heinen’s to distribute over 6,000 pounds of food to community members.
After the first month, the goal is to increase distribution to more than 12,000 pounds of fresh produce each month, helping additional families across Lake and Geauga counties, officials noted.
“When businesses, educational institutions and government entities work together, we all benefit,” said Auburn Superintendent Joe Glavan. “We are fortunate to have such incredible community partners who care deeply about the well-being of our local families….I am a firm believer that we are stronger together and that a rising tide lifts all boats.
“This is also a great way for our students and community business leaders to interact while giving back to our community,” he added. “It helps instill the important value of service above oneself, a lesson that lasts far beyond the classroom.”
Dione DeMitro, executive director of UWLC, also emphasized the importance of collaboration.
“Auburn’s leadership in launching this program highlights how education, business, and service organizations can unite to make a real difference,” she said.
Following the kickoff event, the food market will continue on the fourth Tuesday of each month, with distributions from noon to 2 p.m. at the Auburn Career Center Public Safety Training Facility at 10975 Girdled Road in Concord Township.
Katrina March, executive director of the Eastern Lake County Chamber, said the organization is proud to be part of the market’s mission to address a critical need.
“By connecting families with essential resources, the Auburn Career Center Food Market is helping to ensure that no one is left behind,” she added.
