Sixteen College of Marine Science Faculty were recognized for their career and single
year citation records, demonstrating their impact in oceanography.

Carlyn Scott, College of Marine Science

The number of high-impact researchers at the USF College of Marine Science is on the
rise, according to a recent report by Elsevier and Stanford University, which uses citation impact to identify the top two percent of researchers worldwide.
This is the second time in three consecutive years that the college has increased
its representation on the list.

Across 22 scientific fields of study in 2024, 14 current researchers and two emeritus
faculty members from the College of Marine Science made the list for their career-long
and single-year citations. Compared to results from last year, two researchers, Tim Conway and Jacqueline Dixon, were added to the list in the
fields of geochemistry and geophysics.

“This report underscores the caliber of research produced by our faculty at the College
of Marine Science,” said Tom Frazer, professor and dean of CMS. “The strong single-year citation record shows that our
work addresses pressing, real-world issues, while the career-long citations speak
to its lasting scientific influence.”

FOR CAREER-LONG IMPACT, THE FOLLOWING COLLEGE OF MARINE SCIENCE FACULTY ARE RECOGNIZED

Robert Byrne and Al Hine ranked #16 and #294 respectively in the field of Oceanography (total 16,299 published
researchers).
