For 20 years, Cosmos Magazine has inspired curiosity and made science accessible to everyone. We are a trusted source of fact-based content that has attracted a large audience from across the globe.
In an uncertain time of misinformation and disinformation, it is important that we evolve to continue making an impact. The result of our evolution is a dedicated science news service within CSIRO Publishing’s new digital content platform ConnectSci.
ConnectSci will connect Australian and international audiences with science news, peer-reviewed journals and eBooks. Bringing these different content types together onto one platform will increase our audience, reach and discoverability.
On 21 October 2025, Cosmos Magazine’s online news service will migrate to connectsci.au/news (the site will be live after 11pm AEST on October 21). It will continue to connect people to the science news that matters. ConnectSci News will publish the latest scientific research and discoveries from Australia and overseas. It will maintain its editorial independence and publication of fact-based content.
The news content will target a wide audience, from the science-curious to professionals. This includes the science-interested public; students (high school, undergraduate and post-graduate); scientists; researchers; academics; governments; decision-making bodies; and science organisations.
Gavin Stone, Digital Content Manager, is editorially responsible for the newsroom. He is a former archaeologist who has worked in Australian newsrooms for 17 years, including 2.5 years at Cosmos. The news team includes two full-time journalists Imma Perfetto and Evrim Yazgin. Both are science-trained communicators who have a strong track record during their years at Cosmos.
We aim to create sustainable growth for ConnectSci News and we will work with our extensive network of freelance science communicators to develop new opportunities. We are also seeking to create new partnerships, develop custom content packages and provide experience for the next generation of science communicators.
After an initial review of the Cosmos archive, more than 4000 online news articles will be transferred to the new platform. The content moving to the new site is from the last four years and is primarily written by Cosmos staff or was published during CSIRO Publishing’s ownership. Cosmos content that is not initially transitioned to ConnectSci will be archived offline. We will consult with other authors before we review the remaining archive.
Journalists with work previously commissioned and published by Cosmos are welcome to contact Gavin Stone on [email protected] with any queries.
