The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, FCVSN, has reaffirmed the Commission’s support for responsible transnational education initiatives that promote access to quality higher education in Nigeria.
He gave the assurance when he received a delegation from BYU-Pathway Worldwide, an institution affiliated with Brigham Young University Idaho, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
The delegation, led by Mr. Troy A. Davis, visited to follow up on their application to establish a Teaching Institution under the framework of the NUC’s Transnational Education Policy.
Mr. Davis informed the Executive Secretary that the team had made significant progress in addressing the deficiencies earlier identified during engagements with NUC officials.
Professor Ribadu commended the delegation for their commitment and diligence in complying with the Commission’s requirements. He reiterated that the NUC welcomes credible international partnerships that align with Nigeria’s educational objectives and quality assurance standards.
He also emphasized that the Commission’s approved model for distance learning remains an ICT-enabled, supported blended learning system, designed to combine technology-driven instruction with adequate academic support services.
The Executive Secretary assured the BYU-Pathway team of the Commission’s continued cooperation and encouraged them to maintain full compliance with all regulatory guidelines to ensure the successful delivery of their proposed programmes in Nigeria.
