Those interested in drone technology can attend Careers For Tomorrow, an open house focused on drone training and workforce development, on Saturday, from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the State University of New York at Stony Brook Southampton.
The event is presented with the Stony Brook University Office for Research and Innovation, the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS), the Food Lab at Stony Brook Southampton, the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Drone Cadets.
The event will feature demonstrations led by experts from NYPA and Drone Cadets, showcasing drone piloting techniques and providing technical background on drone operations. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain industry insights and network with professionals in drone-related fields.
“This collaboration reflects the kind of thoughtful, hands-on engagement we’re working to build at Southampton,” Wendy Pearson, vice president for Strategic Initiatives and executive director of Stony Brook Southampton, said in a news release about the program.
“The event offers a chance to explore how emerging technologies can shape new career opportunities while helping us gauge interest in future workforce development programs,” Pearson added. “It’s an important step in our continued effort to revitalize the campus as a center for innovation and opportunity on the East End.”
The event highlights Stony Brook Southampton’s ongoing engagement with emerging technologies and workforce development. Through collaboration between SoMAS, the Food Lab, and other partners, the university aims to assess interest in evolving job markets and explore potential pathways for future workforce training initiatives.
“As drones become an essential tool for the workforce across a multitude of industries, Stony Brook Southampton is an ideal location to showcase the numerous applications of robotics,” Derek O’Connor, workforce development manager with Stony Brook’s Office for Research & Innovation, said in the news release.
“From SoMAS research to FoodLab innovations, to active energy infrastructure projects, this event features successful case examples, career pathway guidance, and fun demonstrations for future drone pilots, programmers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs,” he added.
