This was the “Week that Was”. Do you remember that television show? Hot and cool weather, train and traffic jams, tragic decisions, and even deaths. I have felt every emotion this week.

Love, happiness, sorrow, kindness, selfishness, and prejudice are strong emotions, but to me, the feeling of guilt is the worse emotion one has.

A young man died alone and without help from anyone who might have cared several weeks ago, and I knew his plight. I didn’t help. I was too busy.

The Christian Bible teaches that if you help someone in need, (an unknown brethren), it is the same as doing for the Savior. I lost the blessing.

How many times do we need to check on someone and we don’t? They pass away before you talked to him or her knowing you should, but you don’t, because you were too busy.

You feel guilty and promise you will not do this again, but you do. Guilt is horrible, but fleeting.

• The Garage Sale in Westwood Shores Subdivision was a huge success but was marred by tragedy. I heard a helicopter fly over my house Saturday night and learned later that Life Flight had to be called to help another young man who shot himself. He was not from Trinity.

•Community dates for October.

Oct. 4-6, Huntsville Fair on the Square in Huntsville.

Oct. 5, Purse Bingo at the YMCA

Oct. 5, Trinity County Clean-up Day

Oct. 8, TISD Scholarship Info Night

Oct. 12, Brick Street Harmony Quartet, First Presbyterian Church on North Elm Street

Oct. 15, Pumpkin Patch opens, First Methodist Church of Trinity downtown Lot

Oct. 19, The Calvary Boys in Concert

Oct. 20, Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church Fall Festival

Oct. 26, Trinity Lions Club Pet Expo and Talent Show, Trinity Community Center

Oct. 26, Trinity County Veterans Wall of Honor, Scheelbillies on FM 356 East

Oct. 31, Treats on the Street

•Last week I told you about the successful 42 Domino Tournament ay Joseph’s, but I did not tell you who the winners were. First-place team was Rob Hutchings and June Harrell; second-place team was Ivy Phillips and Mary Barnet: and third-place team was Dean Decker and Marian McMillian.

Kelly Hartsfield was the hostess of this event, and she did a great job. She is the wonderful singer at our Christmas show who wows everyone with her voice, and a teacher in our school district. Thank you for all that you do for our community.

• Currently, I need to give recognition to people in our community who participate in organization and events that make a difference in our lives.

First, Charles Payne from Point Blank, who served 2 years as President of the Trinity Lions Club during the pandemic, then served again 2022 to keep out club functioning until old and new members could return to meetings.

Next is Areia Bacon, who was responsible for the Houston Food Bank Truck which came to the Trinity Community Center for years, and worked as an administrator for the Head Start Program of Trinity during this time.

She is now president of the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce with great plans for the Trinity Christmas Show, parade, and vendors while working for the Trinity Hospital District Board. She is also our newest member in Trinity Lions Club.

You can hear her valuable nutrition, health, and aging programs at the Martin Senior Center on some Thursdays each month to help the elderly citizens in our community. She is invaluable. Thanks again Areia for loving our community.

• Speaking of Martin Senior Citizen Center, we have a new dollar store and raffle corner inside the building at 400 Walker St. For a chance on some beautiful items, visit the Martin Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., eat lunch, and win a valuable prize.

• Great news. Dr. Amol Deshpande has returned his pediatric practice in Trinity at 317 Prospect Drive located inside the MidCoast Hospital facility.

• Congratulations to Tristan Gustafson, the 2024 Fair Queen Winner.

Also don’t forget the purse bingo at the YMCA campgrounds on Saturday, and the Trinity County Cleanup Day also on Saturday.

See you there.
