Tuscaloosa City Schools is seeking emergency funding for special education teachers.
Several schools in the system currently lack certified special education teachers, resulting in instructional challenges for students.
If the funding becomes available, TCS will begin pilot programs aimed at investing in current employees. These programs would better equip current teachers with the skills to care for their special needs students.
“The proposal that’s being put forward for our board to consider is taking current employees, paraprofessionals, so they have experience in classrooms, and supporting them with their tuition” said TCS Superintendent Mike Daria.
The proposal will be discussed at Tuesday’s Tuscaloosa City Schools Board Meeting, happening at 5:30 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa Career and Technology Academy.
