So VTeach is a program that’s in collaboration with the School of Education and the College Access Collaborative that brings high school students interested in a career in education from across the state of Virginia to Virginia Tech’s campus. Our goal is really to just have students step foot on a college campus to know that college is for them. We of course want them to come to Virginia Tech but also really to just promote the career of teaching and education. The primary goal of the College Access Collaborative is to help increase the college-going culture around the Commonwealth. And my colleagues and I work with academic colleges on campus and partner schools around Virginia to ensure colleges accessible and affordable for the students that we work with. We have seen a steady increase in the number of applications offers and the students who enroll at Virginia Tech. The reason I left public education last year was to get into a program that would help teachers succeed and to see teachers expand upon a program that would lead them to want to be teachers and they’re already looking to me and Dr. Fran for advice and like ways that we structured our classroom or ways that we engage the students in lessons and the biggest thing I’ve given them so far it’s like Like, I’d rather you have an impeccable relationship with students than have picture-perfect lesson plans every time. I hope that high school students will take away two things. One that Virginia Tech can be for them if this is the campus that they want to end up at. I also want them to know that college is for them. I never thought I would be a teacher when I was in high school and so we’re really just trying to promote a great career that there is a huge need for. I mean, in the School of Education we have almost 100% job placement. Thank you.
