AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – 2:24 p.m.: Austin Police said the lockdown at Riverland was “triggered by a concerning phone call that alleged that someone would try to do to harm at the campus.”
The department said the caller had also made a call to another party at the same time, leading to concern for the caller’s health and wellbeing.
While the caller is a resident of Austin, officers who went to do a welfare check realized the caller was in the metro area and not in Austin.
Austin Police said arrangements have been made to take the caller to a medical facility after a metro agency made contact with the caller.
The case remains under investigation.
AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – 10:15 a.m.: KTTC staff on scene has confirmed that the lockdown has been lifted.
AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – 9:50 a.m.: According to the Austin Police Department, authorities are aware of a lockdown at Riverland Community College but are “not aware of any active, ongoing, or past action physical issues at that property.”
APD says they have staff working with the college to investigate the original cause of concern.
APD is also in contact with its school resource officers as it works with the school district to learn more.
Authorities have reinstated that they are not aware of any ongoing “physical activity” at any of the Austin educational locations.
At this time, the college campus is still locked down.
AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) – 9:05 a.m.: Riverland Community College in Austin is reportedly in a lockdown, Thursday.
A member of the Riverland communication team confirmed with KTTC that it has been in a lockdown since 8:45 a.m.
Both the east and west buildings are locked down.
