For Andrew Copeland, the start of a new school year is an opportunity to offer support and give thanks to the employees that help run the Coweta County School System.
Since COVID-19, Copeland has made a conscious effort to visit each of Coweta’s 35 schools at the beginning of the school year.
“I try to make a point to see as many people as I can,” Copeland said.
During his visits, Copeland shakes hands with cafeteria workers, greets students and speaks with school administration about their performance, needs and goals for the year.
But Copeland’s trips aren’t for publicity — it’s a way to directly interact with the people he serves.
“They give me the opportunity to see firsthand the great work happening in our classrooms, hear directly from students and staff, and better understand how we can support them,” Copeland said.
Copeland’s tour across Coweta began Friday, Aug. 29 with visits to Elm Street Elementary, Atkinson Elementary, Newnan High School, Smokey Road and the school system’s transportation office. He plans on completing his tour throughout the remainder of the school year.
“My goal is to build stronger connections and ensure that every decision I make stays true to always doing what is best for students,” Copeland said.
