Mansfield Liederkranz will host Treffen2025, a German cultural festival, during Labor Day weekend.
The event, formally known as Landenstreffen der Donauschwaben, will take place Aug. 29-31, according to a community announcement.
The festival will bring together German cultural and heritage clubs, as well as dance groups from across North America, for a weekend full of entertainment, tradition and camaraderie.
What is Treffen?
Treffen, meaning “meeting” or “gathering” in German, is an annual festival that travels to different cities each year. This marks the second time Mansfield will host Treffen since 2023, and the fifth time overall.
The event will feature a parade, crafts, traditional German games, authentic German food and beverages, artisan vendors and live German music and dance performances.
“Treffen is a truly special event that brings families and friends together from all across the country and Canada. It’s a celebration of our shared German heritage, traditions and the strong sense of camaraderie that unites us,” Liederkranz President Karl Schuster said in the announcement. “As proud members of the U.S. National Donauschwaben Society, Liederkranz is honored to once again host Treffen in Mansfield and we look forward to welcoming everyone for a weekend of dance, music and camaraderie.”
Who is attending?
Seventeen Donauschwaben cultural and dance groups are expected to attend, representing cities across the United States including Philadelphia, Trenton, Rochester, Los Angeles, Detroit, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland, Akron, Cincinnati and Mansfield. Groups from Toronto, Kitchener and Windsor in Canada will also participate.
With an estimated attendance of 1,200 to 1,500 people, the event will offer an opportunity to experience German traditions in the heart of Ohio.
Economic impact
Lee Tasseff, president of Destination Mansfield – Richland County, said Treffen2025 will have a positive impact on the local economy.
“We’re proud to have the Mansfield Liederkranz in our community, a club that is highly regarded by its peers nationwide,” Tasseff said. “This event presents a wonderful opportunity for economic growth, and we’re excited to showcase Mansfield’s local attractions, hotels and restaurants to visitors from across North America.”
