For a long time, folks didn’t talk about mental health.
It was one of those taboo topics that people shy away from, and although we’ve come a long way, it remains a topic that many are still uncomfortable with. A couple of high-profile incidents here in Big Sky Country have brought it back into the spotlight.
First, there was the mass shooting in Anaconda.
Michael Paul Brown was taken into custody last week after what had become one of the biggest manhunts in Montana history. Brown, a veteran, is accused of walking into The Owl Bar, where it is alleged he opened fire, which resulted in the deaths of four people. The story made international headlines.
Second, on Sunday, August 10th, authorities were called to the Bozeman Walmart, where an individual had a gun to their head.
Walmart employees did a wonderful job of jumping into action and removing customers; however, the person would end up taking their own life, which resulted in the temporary closure of the store.
