Geneseo, N.Y. – Friday marks the deadline for New York State school districts to submit their plans to implement bell-to-bell smartphone restrictions next semester.
Governor Hochul signed the policy into law earlier this year, ensuring every student receives a high-quality education free from social media and other distractions on the phone.
We talked to the Geneseo Central School District on Friday, which says it put out surveys to gather input from parents about the plan.
There will reportedly be some exceptions to the ban, including students with medical or other special circumstances.
“As students come in, they are going to be given pouches that are basically like a pencil case,” said Michael Bostwick, the superintendent of the Genesee Central School District. “All of our students, grades 6-12, will put their devices into the pouches and will be expected to be housed within their locker throughout the day, bell-to-bell.”
