Multnomah County’s Preschool for All director has resigned after her ties to a preschool provider accused of “wasteful” spending of state dollars called her credibility into question with her employers.
Multnomah County spokesperson Julie Sullivan-Springhetti confirmed Leslee Barnes’ resignation Thursday evening. It comes after a state audit alleged that a preschool she owns did not appropriately spend the state’s Preschool Promise grant dollars, as first reported by Willamette Week. That program is separate from the county’s own highly-scrutinized universal preschool initiative, Preschool for All, which has come under fire for a shaky roll-out amidst a huge backlog of unspent funds.
