DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — The Trump Administration has frozen $109 million in federal funding for Duke Health, a White House official confirmed to ABC News.
The freeze comes one day after the administration said it was investigating “systemic racial discrimination” in the university’s health care system.
The federal funding reportedly encompasses Duke University School of Medicine and the overall health research and health care system at Duke.
On Monday, both the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Education sent a letter to Duke expressing concerns about “racial preferences in hiring, student admissions, patient care and other operations.”

ABC11 reached out to Duke for a response, but the university has not yet commented on these developments.
Also on Monday, Department of Education officials opened an investigation into Duke centering on the Duke Law Journal. The federal government alleged that the organization violated the Civil Rights Act in the factors it used to select law journal members.
