STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW) — The Stevens Point Area Public School District has been awarded a $56,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. This grant, part of the Enhancing Social and Emotional Skills in Students with IEPs (ES3) initiative, aims to improve outcomes for students with Individualized Education Programs.
The funding will be used for professional development in the junior high school special education program. It will focus on supporting students with autism, emotional behavioral disabilities, and other health impairments.
“This grant will strengthen staff support systems and the implementation process at the team and district levels,” said Director of Student Services Jennie McMahon.
Schools receiving the grant will collaborate with DPI Supporting Neurodiverse Students Coordinators. These coordinators will provide coaching, training, and resources to help implement improvement strategies.
“We are excited about the impact this funding will have in helping us better support our neurodiverse learners,” said Superintendent Cory Hirsbrunner.
