DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Governor Kay Ivey recently announced the expansion of Alabama’s First Class Pre-K program. The program has been nationally recognized as the top state-funded Pre-K program in the country.
58 new classrooms are coming next school year to expand access to quality early learning across the state.
The four schools from our area that will be a part of this expansion include:
- A.M. Windham Elementary in Dale County
- Kiddie Care Abbeville Early Learning Center in Henry County
- Cottonwood and Rehobeth Elementary Schools in Houston County.
The program which has served more than 24,000 students is said to have a long term impact.
Research shows that children who participate in First-Class Pre-K are more likely to be successful throughout their academic careers than their peers who do not participate in the program.
