California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) has been recognized for its quality of education and economic mobility, earning a 4.5-star rating out of five on Money’s annual Best Colleges in America list. This honor comes as CSUMB continues to improve its graduation and enrollment rates. Students at the university are thrilled about the recognition. “I think we’re getting noticed and it’s pretty impressive as it’s happening now as I am a student on campus and I think it’s CSUMB’s time,” Amaris Santiago, a junior student said. Diana Venegas, a senior student, added, “I think it accurately represents what we have here, what CSUMB has to offer for our students. I’m so glad that I was able to come here and have the opportunity to experience it first-hand.”The university was rated based on graduation rates, affordability, and economic mobility. CSUMB president Vanya Quinones said, “If you come here we will help you to graduate. We are one of the CSU’s that have removed all the equity gap, so it means regardless of your background you come here you will get the education.”The ranking considered several factors, including quality of education, affordability, and economic mobility for low-income students, ultimately setting up students for success after graduation. Stuent Metzli Herrera expressed confidence in their future, saying, “I’m really confident in the skills that I have that I can go graduate and go into the workforce and get a career.”University officials say this recognition reassures them that they are on the right track to help students move forward. “Cal State Monterey Bay is all about offering a strong curriculum to our students’ education to ensure that they move forward. We are recognized for upward mobility, which means when the students graduate they have an opportunity to move forward financially,” Herrera said.Last month, CSUMB was also recognized for its master’s program, being one of twelve schools to receive a five-star rating in Money’s list.
