HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Puerto Rican Festival returns for its second year this Saturday to celebrate the community’s vibrant mix of Taino, Spanish, and African influences and rich history in the islands.
The free family-friendly event takes place July 12 at Mililani High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature authentic music from Jibaro and African roots, traditional dances and food.
There will also be a performance blending Puerto Rican and Hawaiian “cachi cachi” music.
Ivan Alvira of event organizer Puerto Rican Heritage Society of Hawaii joined HNN’s Sunrise to talk about the community’s contributions to Hawaii.
“It’s a chance to experience the vibrant spirit of Puerto Rico right here in the islands,” Alvira said.
“This festival, being free and open to all, strengthens community bonds, educates about our history and provides a joyful space for cultural exchange, ensuring our heritage thrives for future generations here in Hawaii.”
