LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – It’s about to get more expensive to attend the University of Nebraska.
The NU Board of Regents voted Thursday to approve a 5% tuition increase at the start of the upcoming school year. The vote was 10-2, with Kathy Wilmot and Robert Schafer voting “no.” The decision comes almost exactly a year after the board voted 7-2 for a rise in tuition.
That means tuition will go up about $560 for in-state students and $1,400 for out-of state students.
The move comes after state lawmakers approved just a fractino of the 3.5% funding increase the board asked for last August.
Regents said their goal is to keep tuition affordable for students while making up for funding gaps and higher operational costs. The 5% tuition hike is expected to bring in an additional $19 million for the Nebraska University system.
