VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—Vicksburg High School Executive Principal Dr. LaToya Sims‑Allen has accepted a new position with the Mississippi Department of Education, marking a significant step in her distinguished career in public education. Dr. Sims‑Allen will now serve as an Education Program Administrator in the Office of School Improvement (OSI), where she will work to support schools across the state in their efforts to improve academic outcomes.
“This opportunity allows me to expand my impact beyond a single school,” said Dr. Sims‑Allen. “I’m excited to work alongside passionate educators across Mississippi and contribute to efforts that drive meaningful change for students at the state level.”
Dr. Sims‑Allen brings nearly two decades of experience in education to her new role. Prior to leading Vicksburg High School, she served as Principal of South Park Elementary, where her leadership earned her recognition as the Vicksburg-Warren School District Administrator of the Year in 2021. She also has six years of experience as a classroom teacher and has contributed to higher education as both an adjunct instructor and a university supervisor, mentoring future educators.
Her academic credentials include a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College. She also holds a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts from Alcorn State University.
Dr. Sims‑Allen gave an emotional address during her final graduation ceremony at Vicksburg High School, where 187 seniors received their diplomas. The event was especially meaningful for her, as her son, Mincer Minor IV, was among the graduates, making the moment a truly memorable sendoff.
