PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – Governor Patrick Morrisey signed two bills into law on Tuesday.
House Bill 2003 empowers the local county Boards of Education to prohibit the use of personal electronic devices in classes.
Wood County Schools Superintendent Christie Willis says this will possibly only require minor changes to the current policy, as the board begins comparing the policy will the bill that was signed.
“We were pretty proactive last year in working on a cell phone policy for Wood County Schools. So, I think the good part to this is, we just have some minor changes to do to our current policy,” said Willis.
Senate Bill 280 requires public schools and institutes of higher education in West Virginia to display the U.S. motto, “In God We Trust.”
“As Governor, one of my top priorities is to improve West Virginia’s educational rankings,” said Governor Morrisey. “To do that, we must focus on academics and remove classroom distractions. The bills I signed today will help ensure a brighter future for students in the Mountain State.”
The bill signing took place at Lincoln Middle School on Tuesday.
