Taylor Ensley ’25 always dreamed of playing college softball, and she has been able to fulfill that dream as a starting outfielder for NC State’s softball team while also earning her bachelor’s degree in Applied Education Studies: Learning Design and Technology through the NC State College of Education.

Why did you choose the NC State College of Education?
I chose NC State’s College of Education because it is a program that has a strong reputation of preparing educators. I chose to major in applied education because I have a passion for education and being able to change students’ lives in the classroom.
Tell us about an experience you had with the College of Education that had the biggest impact on you:
There are so many different classes that I was able to take that allowed me to see education from all perspectives. It was also important to have professors who have actually worked in the classroom, so they could better prepare us to be future educators.
What do you enjoy about playing for the NC State softball team?
My favorite part about being on the NC State softball team is being able to play with my younger sister, [Tori Ensley]. I find joy in the special moments that happen every game and practice: Jogging around the bases after a homerun, your teammate making a big play and you getting to cheer them on, throwing someone out and getting to play at the level I dreamed about my whole life.
How did the NC State College of Education prepare you for what’s next?
My next step is to pursue a career in education, and I would also like to coach softball. The College of Education has prepared me for the real world, because I have been taught the knowledge and skills to succeed in the classroom as a future educator
Why did you choose education?
I chose education because both my mother and grandma were teachers, and they have always worked in the school system. I grew up having a great relationship with my teachers in school. I saw how passionate they were about their job and how much they cared for me. I also saw how much hard work my mom put in behind the scenes to be the best teacher she could be.
