DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Mental health has been a hot topic for years, raising questions about having enough local resources, time and time again.
This week, several incidents have occurred involving law enforcement and someone suffering a mental health episode.
Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane said the mental health crisis is an epidemic, an issue that local law enforcement officials said can fuel crimes.
But are there other factors?
“It is easy to see that there is some correlation between drug use, extended drug use, and certain types of drugs and the mental health problem that we have currently,” Lane said.
Lane said this isn’t just a local issue, but a national one.
Lane said he feels, if we want to work to solve this mental health crisis, it will take a national effort.
There are some resources available to those dealing with mental health issues.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration offers a national helpline at 1-800-662-4357.
