CANADIAN, Texas (KFDA) – The Citadelle Art Museum’s newest exhibit on ledger art of the Southern Plains Indigenous tribes is now on display.
“Spirit of Our Ancestors: Historic Ledger Drawings of the Southern Plains Indians — Cheyenne, Arapaho and Kiowa” dives into the impact of the Red River War and the lasting presence of Indigenous culture in the Texas Panhandle, according to a news release.
The exhibit brings to life the history and resilience of the Southern Cheyenne, Southern Arapaho, Kiowa, Comanche, and Plains Apache through the historic ledger drawings.
A news release states the ledger art captures the personal stories of warriors, depicting battles, hunting and other parts of tribal life.
The collection features work by acclaimed Cheyenne and Arapaho artists George Curtis Levi, Brent Learned and Beau Tsatoke.

The museum is open from Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at 520 E. Nelson Ave.
