Two graduate programs at Colorado State University were among the top three in the nation in rankings released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.
CSU’s occupational therapy and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programs were both rated No. 3 nationally in the publication’s annual rankings of college and university graduate programs.
CSU moved up four spots in the rankings for occupational therapy programs, trailing only Boston University and the University of Southern California this year. CSU’s program was ranked No. 7 last year.
The university converted its master’s program into a professional doctorate in occupational therapy three years ago and recently had that program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy for seven years, the maximum length possible for a new program, according to a story in Source, an online publication of CSU’s marketing and communications team.
Another distinction of the CSU program, according to Source, is that it is one of the few in the country that is community based, putting students out in Fort Collins and surrounding communities to gain real-world experience in the field.
CSU’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program has been ranked among the top three in the country by U.S. News & World Report for more than 20 years. CSU is ranked behind only the University of California-Davis and Cornell University in this year’s rankings.
CSU is in the process of expanding its Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program from 140 students in incoming classes to 168 with a $230 million expansion of its veterinary teaching hospital and other facilities on its south campus, scheduled to open in 2026.
The latest rankings follow several others that have raised CSU’s profile. CSU was the only college or university in Colorado to appear on a “Top Colleges for Affordability” list published Dec. 2 by Scholarships360, based on data from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. CSU was also named the top educational employer in Colorado by Forbes magazine in 2024, and the only university in the state on Forbes’ list of “America’s Best Employers for Women.” CSU was also ranked in a tie for second in the state with Colorado College, trailing only Colorado School of Mines, on Money magazine’s “Best Colleges in America” list.
