The Mosaic Templars Cultural Center celebrated the opening of a new exhibit, “Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited,” on Aug. 22 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a special food tasting.
The multi-media exhibit includes narrative works from Valaida Fullwood and photography by Charles W. Thomas based on the book “Giving Back” the two collaborated on and “explores the Black American experience with philanthropy and elevates giving traditions grounded in faith, mutuality, responsibility and social justice,” according to a news release about the exhibit.
Following the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed the first of several programs planned around the exhibit — The Soul Kitchen, a soul food tasting of southern Black cuisine.
The Arkansas Black Philanthropy Collaborative, with funding by Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund, partnered with the museum to bring the exhibit to Little Rock. The exhibit will be on display until Dec. 3 when there will be a closing reception and program, Soul Sounds, featuring local musicians. Visit theabpc.org/tsop for more information.
