LIVINGSTON COUNTY — The Livingston Educational Service Agency will host four informational meetings for community members on a special education millage up for renewal in November.
Public schools in Livingston County have asked LESA to propose the renewal and restoration of the existing special education millage, according to a news release. If approved, it would continue to fund services, programs and resources for more than 3,500 students with special needs in Livingston County.
“Without these funds, districts may have to use general fund dollars from other programs to pay for mandated, but otherwise unfunded, services and programs that meet the needs of students with disabilities,” said LESA Superintendent Michael Hubert.

The informational meetings are set to last one hour each at 1425 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell, in the Innovation Room. There’s a virtual option at tinyurl.com/millageinfo.
Meetings are scheduled for the following days:
- Thursday, Sept. 5 — 12 p.m.
 - Thursday, Sept. 19 — 5:30 p.m.
 - Thursday, Oct. 3 — 12 p.m.
 - Thursday, Oct. 17 — 5:30 p.m.

Voters initially approved the millage for 10 years in 2015. That year, LESA committed to giving 100% of the millage-generated funds to local school districts and public school academies. LESA intends to do the same if the proposal is approved by voters in November.
