CINCINNATI (WKRC) – The Quadrantid Meteor Shower is soon set to peak.
According to NASA, the Quadrantid Meteor Shower — one of the best annual meteor showers — was active starting Dec. 27, with its peak to come on the night between Jan 2–3. The shower often produces bright fireballs, which originates from an asteroid called 2003 EH1. Those meteors appear in all parts of the sky.
According ScienceAlert, the Quadrantid Meteor Shower will peak around 7:53 a.m. on Wednesday. Observers will be able to see around 110 to 120 meteors every hour of the six hour event. Described by the outlet as one of the “most intense” meteor showers, observers will have to wait around a year for another chance to witness it.
The meteor shower will continue until Jan. 16, 2025.
Following the Quadrantids, the next significant meteor shower is the Lyrids. Those meteors begin on April 15 and last until April 30, with the peak on the night of April 21–22.
