It was a heart wrenching scene in the neighborhood around the former Virginia Intermont College as an early Friday morning fire engulfed the campus.
The historic college has been a part of the Bristol community since the late 1800s. It permanently closed its doors in 2014 after 130 years of operation. Since that time, the campus buildings have continued to deteriorate.
Folks who attended the school tell News 5 they’re extremely saddened to see it destroyed in the blaze.
College alumni also tell News 5 that while the path forward looks uncertain, the memories made at Virginia Intermont will last a lifetime.
