HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — The heat is back on at Viking Elementary School and classes will resume Dec. 3 as normal, according to a Holmen school district press release.
In a message to parents at 4 p.m. Monday, district officials said one of the school’s boilers went offline.
Those boilers are set to be replaced by the end of January after the district’s successful referendum in 2022.

[EARLIER UPDATE]
HOLMEN, Wis. (WKBT) — School officials at Viking Elementary are providing an update to the situation caused by heating issues.
Families are now being encouraged to pick up students at the alternate locations as soon as possible if they are able. School officials said if students aren’t picked up by 3:00 p.m. they will be placed on their usual PM bus route.
If students typically walk home, they will be transported to Viking Elementary so they can walk home as usual.
No surround care will be available. Those students need to be picked up by 3:00 p.m. at the alternate locations.
4K/Early Childhood through 2nd grade are currently at the Holmen Boys and Girls Club. 3rd through 5th graders are at Holmen High School.
Students are being given lunch at their alternate locations.
Signage is posted at Holmen High School to locate the Fine Arts Center for pickup.
School officials ask to please bring your I.D. for pickup.
No cause has been identified by school officials as of yet. Viking Elementary says they are actively working to resolve the heating issue and plan to provide updates later on.

In an update on the school’s Facebook page Monday morning, they say an unexpected situation has left the school without heat and they’ve been unable to resolve the issue.
As a result, the district has taken the following actions:
- Afternoon 4K classes are canceled
- Students in 4K/Early Childhood through 2nd grade will be relocated to the Holmen Boys & Girls Club
- Students in 3rd through 5th grade will be relocated to Holmen High School
- Bus routes will still operate as normal to bring students home from Holmen High School & the Holmen Boys & Girls Club
School officials said if parents or guardians want to pick up their children immediately, please do so at the Holmen High School Fine Arts Center or the Holmen Boys & Girls Club, depending on their grade level. Otherwise, pickup times for students will remain normal and be coordinated from these alternate locations.
Viking Elementary says they will update families on Tuesday’s schedule.
