The Atlantic Rotary Club held its annual Salute to Veterans on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at the Cass County Community Center.
The featured speakers were the veterans themselves. They were asked to introduce themselves and mention the branch of service they were in along with the years they were in the service. They were then asked to mention a special memory from their time in the service.
These memories ranged from scary, being in the hospital from being wounded and almost dying, to meeting their future husband, being the training officer to future General’s, to driving trucks a little faster than they should on narrow foreign country roads.
Even with the hard work involved many enjoyed the opportunity to travel the world and be a part of the service to our country.
There were individuals that served over 20 years even over 30 and 35 years. Many were parents to children that have gone into the service or children of service members. All carrying on a valued family tradition of service to our country.
“We salute those who have served,” members said.
