AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two candidates are vying for the role of superintendent for the Richmond County School District.
Following a 9-1 vote on Tuesday, Dr. Malinda Cobb and Keith Simmons have been selected as the finalists to fill the position for superintendent.

“The outcome of this decision may not please everyone, but we hope the intention is clear. We are choosing with the future of Richmond County in mind,” said Shawnda Stoval, District 1 representative for the Richmond County Board of Education.

With the selection of the finalists now complete, the process is set to conclude in 14 days. It will undergo a period of public commentary, after which the board will reconvene in 14 days.
After the superintendent vote, Walter Eubanks nominated Stovall for the Georgia School Board Association District 10 seat.
The Board of Education plans to name the next superintendent on August 12.
