The Yellow City Comic Convention (YC3), one of the Texas Panhandle’s largest pop culture events, returns for its ninth edition Friday through Sunday, April 11-13 at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex.
After a COVID-related cancellation in 2020, YC3 is now celebrating its 10th year, expecting 4,000 to 5,000 attendees to enjoy a weekend packed with celebrity guests, cosplay, gaming, and community spirit.
“This is our tenth year in existence, and we cater to nearly every fandom,” said Brandon Biggers, co-owner of YC3. “Whether you love movies, sci-fi, fantasy, or video games, we’ve got something for you.”
The 2025 lineup includes a stellar roster of celebrity guests. Headlining the event is Michael Biehn, best known for his roles as Kyle Reese in “The Terminator,” Hicks in “Aliens,” and his appearances in “The Mandalorian.” Joining him is Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, known for her roles in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
Fans of voice acting will recognize Beau Billingslea as Jet Black from “Cowboy Bebop” and William Salyers, who voiced Rigby in “Regular Show” and characters in “Mass Effect 3.” Andy Merrill, the voice of Brak from “Space Ghost Coast to Coast” and “The Brak Show,” will bring his comedic charm to the convention. Lee Majdoub, known for his role as Agent Stone in the “Sonic the Hedgehog” films, will also be a guest, appealing to newer audiences. Rounding out the guest list is Texas-based voice actor William Ofoegbu, known for his roles in “My Hero Academia” and “Dead Mount Death Play.”
“We aim high,” Biggers said. “We look for guests who are popular locally, those fans request, and those we’ve always wanted to bring. We try to ensure we appeal to a broad range of interests — from anime to big names like Michael Biehn.”
Biggers also highlighted the event’s inclusive atmosphere. “We want YC3 to be a place where anyone can feel like they belong, whether you’re a longtime comic book fan or just discovering the world of pop culture. It’s about celebrating fandom in all its forms.”
In addition to meeting the stars, YC3 attendees can look forward to a packed schedule of exciting activities. The convention will span three areas of the Civic Center: the North and South Exhibit Halls and the Regency Room. Cosplay contests, which Biggers described as “hugely attended,” will showcase creative costumes. More than 100 vendor booths will offer lightsabers, art, 3D-printed collectibles, trading cards and more. Gaming enthusiasts can compete in video game tournaments or a new “Warhammer 40K” competition. A larping fighting pit will also provide interactive fun, and Hooked on Sabers, a popular lightsaber vendor, will return after a successful 2024 appearance.
A standout attraction is the Neko Neko Maid Café, which will adopt a “horror vampire” theme in 2025. Typically offering a traditional Japanese experience, the café will feature shows and an escape room for an immersive and fun atmosphere. “It’s going to be a good time,” Biggers said. “We’re really excited about it.”
YC3 is committed to its motto: “For the community, by the community.” Volunteers, called the “YC3 Army of Sidekicks,” receive free entry, T-shirts, meals, and behind-the-scenes access. The convention also supports a different nonprofit each year, with proceeds from YC3 2025 benefiting PFLAG, an LGBT advocacy organization founded by friends and family of LGBT individuals. PFLAG has nearly 400 chapters nationwide, representing over 350,000 members and supporters. The organization provides vital support and advocacy for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. “We’re passionate about supporting the community,” Biggers said.
For those unsure about attending, Biggers emphasized the event’s broad appeal.
“I’ve known people who thought a comic convention wasn’t for them, but they come and are amazed by how much they enjoy it,” he said. “If you ever loved something as a kid, you’ll find something to love at YC3.”
