MADISON (WKOW) — Work is progressing at The Center for Black Excellence and Culture in Madison.
The center broke ground in June and now they’ve got cement being poured on the site.
The founder of the center, Rev. Dr. Alex Gee, says the space will be a place to uplift Black joy, Black innovation and Black wellness.
“We believe that culture and the celebration of culture, and space to do this, a safe space to lean into community, is going to strengthen and bring about a vibrancy in the Black community which will help us feel a state of belonging in the state of Wisconsin,” said Rev. Dr. Alex Gee.
Dr. Gee says they’ve raised $29 million from about 1,200 donors and they’re hoping to raise more.
He says the goal is to have the center finished for a soft opening by November of 2025.
