Juli Buehler, the long-time news director at Sinclair-owned WLUK in Green Bay, is retiring after a television career that has spanned more than four decades.

Buehler has spent more than 30 years in Northeast Wisconsin, most recently serving as the news director of WLUK (Channel 11, Fox), a position she has held since 1995. She joined the station in 1987 as a full-time executive producer, after previously worked as a news producer at WTNH (Channel 8, ABC) in Connecticut.

Buehler also held various journalism roles at the Voice of America in Washington and as an anchor and reporter at news stations in Rochester, Minnesota and Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

“Juli has had a truly remarkable journey,” Jay Zollar, the Vice President and General Manager of WLUK, said in a statement. “Many strong journalists across the country have passed through here and have benefited from her involvement in their lives. Fox 11 would not be what it is today if it were not for Juli’s investment of her passion and experience.”

“I am appreciative of all the many opportunities WLUK-TV and Sinclair Media, the parent company of WLUK, have afforded me,” Buehler shared on Thursday. “It has been an incredible journey with colleagues who have become lifelong friends, and newsroom adventures that are lifelong memories. This career has been a gift.”

During her career, she received numerous awards, including the Associated Press Carol Brewer Award. She was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle in 2016.

At WLUK, Buehler helped lead the station through its affiliation change in 1995 when it left NBC and signed on to carry Fox programming. Buehler was also instrumental in launching “Good Day Wisconsin,” the market’s 4.5-hour morning news program, and worked with the Green Bay Packers football team to organize the “Fox 11 Packers Family Night.” Part of the station’s relationship with the football team also saw Buehler and others working to purchase a plot of land across from Lambeau Field, which is now known as the Fox 11 Field House.

Buehler has served on the executive board of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and pushed for access and transparency between journalists and elected representatives and the court system.
