Tom Llamas is slated to replace Lester Hold as the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News, NBC announced earlier this month. Llamas will be making history as the first Latino to do so.
NBC News executive vice president of programming Janelle Rodriguez said in a statement:
“Tom has the winning combination of journalistic excellence, passionate storytelling and unyielding integrity — all characteristics that have long been trademarks of NBC Nightly News. Additionally, he’s been instrumental in growing NBC News NOW into the leading streaming news network, helping to introduce NBC News to a new generation of viewers.”
Tom Llamas, who began his career as a journalist in 2000, has now sparked interest in his net worth and earnings. According to Distractify, while the exact figures remain unclear, his net worth is likely around $2.5 million. However, Fact Buddy places his net worth at $1.4 million with an estimated salary of $87,153. As stated, the exact figures remain to be confirmed.
Tom Llamas’ career explored: From 2000 to 2025
Llamas began his career with the NBC News Specials Unit, though he later shifted to MSNBC, where he remained until 2005. After that, he made his foray into NBC’s WTVJ in Miami before shifting to New York in 2009. There, he carved his path as a general assignment reporter and anchor for WNBC and NBC News.
By September 2014, Tom Llamas began working with ABC News as a New York-based correspondent, and by the following year, he bagged the Sunday anchor position for ABC World News Tonight. By January 2017, he became the sole weekend anchor of World News Tonight.
During his time at ABC, he worked on several prolific stories, including the 2016 Presidential Election, natural disasters, and more. In 2008, he was given an Emmy for his coverage of human smuggling at sea with the U.S. Coast Guard. In 2013, he nabbed yet another Emmy for Best Anchor.
By January 2021, he parted ways with the network, after having worked there for over six years.
“Over the years it has been a pleasure spending the weekends together,” he said in a clip at the time. “It has been an honor to work here. I am the son of immigrants, and because of that, I have never taken for granted the opportunity or the responsibility to be able to sit at this desk and bring you the truth.”
He then joined NBC as a senior national correspondent. At the time, he posted a screenshot of Deadline‘s article about the news on Instagram. Alongside, he wrote in the caption:
“Back on the gram with a new handle and a bit of news. Excited for this homecoming and next big step. Will be bringing you stories on @todayshow & @nbcnightlynews and soon on @nbcnewsnow.”
At the time of writing, it remains unclear how much Tom Llamas will be earning in his new position as the anchor of NBC Nightly News. Distractify has reported that his predecessor, Lester Holt, earned $10 million a year, Llamas could likely get a bigger paycheck.
