PINE BLUFF, Ark. — The Ivy Center for Education is making final preparations to host a workshop seeking to instill career readiness in high school students by exposing them to various career paths of pharmacy.
Set to take place at the UAMS South Central Medical Center, the event will be held Tuesday, January 7 at 1601 West 40th Street.
Featured in the session are second year UAMS College of Pharmacy students, Ma’Kyah Goodlow, Lynn Duncan, and Mackenzie Rodgers.
“We, the Ivy Center for Education, are growing our own Medical Professionals for Pine Bluff/Jefferson County,” says ICE President Mattie Collins.
“It is so rewarding to see young intelligent scholars share their journey towards a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree with our Club Scrub Scholars,” says Danielle Harris, Club Scrub Coordinator.
“They truly make a difference.”
Goodlow, a native of Pine Bluff and graduate of Pine Bluff High School, is a former Ivy Center Scholar and earned a degree in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Duncan, a native of Conway and graduate of Conway High School, received her degree in Biochemistry from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Rodgers is from Sherwood and graduated from Sylvan Hills High School.
She also graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where she earned dual degrees in Biology and Biochemistry.
These 3 featured pharmacists will speak during the workshop.
The Ivy Center welcomes scholars from 7th to 12th grade to experience an interactive workshop set to highlight parts of the multi-faceted field.
Parents and community partners are encouraged to attend as well.
Insight will be shared that can assist those who are looking to form their own career pathway, identify educational requirements needed, and also gain a perspective on pharmacists’ impact on healthcare.
A grant from the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation/JRMC Health Grant helped make the Club Scrub Project possible, as well as a donation from Alpha Kappa Delta Omega chapter.
