The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana is highlighting its career and technical education programs during National Career and Technical Education Month this February, offering pathways to high-demand jobs in technology, construction, and energy sectors.
As employers nationwide struggle to find skilled workers, UAHT provides training in fields that cannot be easily automated or outsourced, including cybersecurity, diesel technology, welding, and solar energy technology.
The programs are designed with input from industry partners to ensure graduates meet current employer needs. Many can be started while students are still in high school at no cost, and scholarships such as the Arkansas Workforce Grant and ArFuture Grant are available to cover tuition costs.
UAHT offers degrees and certificates in coding, cybersecurity, fiber optics, information technology, construction technology, diesel technology, electromechanical technology, HVAC, solar energy technology, and welding. These programs are often more affordable and faster to complete than traditional four-year degrees.
The technical education approach benefits various populations, including early college high school students, recent graduates, working adults seeking new skills, and career changers.
“Technical education also helps students see a clear connection between learning and earning,” according to the university. “That connection builds confidence and motivation.”
